Flake Flooring – Built on EpiqFlo’s 5-Coat System

Flake Flooring
EpiqFlo's 5 Coat System
Flake flooring is more than just a decorative surface—it’s a multi-layered epoxy system embedded with vinyl chips to create a textured, high-traction, and resilient floor. At EpiqFlo, every flake installation is built on our exclusive 5-Coat System, engineered for long-term durability where other 2–3 coat systems fall short.
Why the 5-Coat System Matters
Each EpiqFlo flake floor is applied in five critical layers:
-
Concrete Preparation – Diamond grinding ensures a clean, profiled surface for maximum adhesion.
-
Primer Coat – Seals and strengthens the slab, bonding the system deep into the concrete.
-
Base Coat – High-build epoxy forms the structural layer for toughness under traffic.
-
Flake Broadcast – Decorative vinyl chips add texture, grip, and visual depth while masking dirt and wear.
-
Dual Topcoats – Two layers of UV-stable polyaspartic/PU protection lock in the flake and deliver the final finish—gloss, satin, or matte.
This layered build is what makes our floors denser, stronger, and longer lasting—designed to resist hot tyres, heavy use, moisture, and UV exposure.

Why Choose Flake Flooring?
Because some floors need to do more than look good.
Is it just decorative? Or is there a purpose to the flake?
There’s function in the finish. The embedded flakes break up surface reflection, increase visual depth, and—more importantly—add micro-texture that helps reduce slips. They also help disguise dust, dirt, scuffs, and wear over time, making the floor look cleaner, longer.
Is it durable like standard epoxy?
Yes. Flake floors are built on the same strong base—an epoxy or polyaspartic foundation bonded to concrete. Once cured and top-coated, the floor resists chemicals, moisture, abrasion, and heavy foot traffic. Think of it as epoxy with added traction and visual texture.
Where does it work best in a home?
Garages, patios, laundries, pool surrounds, and even mudrooms. Any zone where water, dirt, or movement is common. Flake handles wet feet, dropped tools, or muddy pets without absorbing mess or showing signs of wear.
Is it slip-resistant? Even when wet?
Yes. That’s one of the core advantages. The flake layer creates micro-variation across the surface, increasing friction underfoot. For areas exposed to water—like pool zones or outdoor walkways—we can dial in extra anti-slip performance through topcoat choice.
Will it match my space’s design?
It will blend or contrast—your call. Flake blends come in natural tones, monochromes, or bold contrasts. You can opt for light-reflective greys, speckled earth tones, or sharper high-vis patterns depending on your style and lighting. The finish can be gloss, satin, or matte.
Is it hard to clean? Does it trap dust in the texture?
Not at all. The surface is fully sealed—so dirt sits on top, not inside. It wipes, mops, or hoses down with ease. The texture helps hide mess between cleans, but doesn’t collect it like carpet or tile grout would.
Can it handle vehicles, tools, or machinery?
Absolutely. Flake systems are often used in auto shops and commercial garages. They're resistant to oil, brake fluid, solvents, and dropped gear. For residential garages, they offer a finished look that actually performs under pressure.
Is it low-maintenance? Or will it fade and flake off?
Installed properly, flake systems don’t shed. The flakes are locked into the epoxy or polyaspartic layer, then sealed with a durable topcoat. The system is UV-stable, abrasion-resistant, and built to hold up for years without peeling, cracking, or fading.
Whether you want a garage that hides scuffs, a poolside path that won’t turn slick, or a laundry that feels finished—not just functional—flake flooring gives you texture with purpose.
